Additional survivors include one sister, Virginia Settle Feltenburger of York, Pa.; one brother, Charles L. Settle and three granddaughters.
Mr. Settle was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elizabeth Martin.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 29 at Found & Sons Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth F. Huneycutt officiating.
Interment followed in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were his nephews.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Bethel Baptist Church Choir, 19831 Old Orange Road, Culpeper, Va. 22701.

James Wayland, Sr.
James Jackson “Jack” Wayland Sr., 72, of Harrisonburg, died Saturday, April 26 at Rockingham Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Private memorial services were conducted at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Wayland was bom Feb. 5, 1925, in Portsmouth, son of the late Russell Barborie Wayland Sr. and Victoria Daniel Wayland.
He retired from the Fairfax County school system and was formerly employed by the Rappahannock County school system.
He taught television science and physics in Norfolk County public schools from 1961 to 1966.
He coached football, basketball and track at Churchland and Culpeper High Schools.
He graduated from Churchland High School in Portsmouth, attended University of Virginia and graduated from Stetson University in Deland, Fla.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a paratrooper with the infantry.
He was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and four Campaign Stars.
He was active in the Spotswood Athletic Booster’s Club and coached state champion Culpeper High School track and football teams.
He was awarded National Science Foundation grants and served as president of the State Coaches Association.
He was president of the PTA and was a member of a Baptist Church and chairman of its board of deacons.
He was active in Rotary, Masonic Lodges and various other community activities.
Surviving are his wife, Anita D. Wayland; five sons, Gary Brown Wayland of Front Royal, Edward Daniel Wayland of Sperryville, James Jackson Wayland Jr. of Virginia Beach, Patrick Christian Shaw and Andrew Derek Shaw, both of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Melanie Camille Shaw of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Doris Virginia Smith and Gladys Victoria Hoggard, both of Portsmouth; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
