More local connections will have a chance to cheer if regular Gold Cup television commentator Michele Rouse partners husband Randy’s Fire Sale in a Cup attempt. The I I-year-old gray gelding bred in Kentucky, trains in Middleburg. Though Fire Sale was brought down in the April 19 Grand National at Butler, Md., Rouse reported that he seemed alright after his fall and was therefore nominated to the Cup under that presumption.
His prior form over the course includes a third-place Finish in the 1994 Gold Cup, and Fire Sale is a regular in Virginia point-to-point winners’ circles. His latest big win came in 1994 when he won the timber handicap at Morven Park and the Benjamin Murray memorial timber race at the Grand National meet in Maryland.
