In new business, the Board approved the acceptance of eight paintings, by local artist Robin Purnell, for display during a two year period when Mrs. Pumell will be in Kazakhstan. The motion carried with Board member Joy Sloane opposed. The paintings are portraits of local people and the Board felt they would add significantly to the atmosphere of the library. They will be hung in the main part of the library and not affect the rotating schedule of paintings in the Jamieson Room.
The paintings are a private collection and not for sale, which is one reason the Board agreed to display them. They will be covered by insurance which will be provided by supporters of Robin Pumell. And an agreement to hold the library harmless will be signed. Diana Bird had approached Mrs. Pumell about having her pictures hang in the library instead of putting them in storage.
It was also reported that the library had received a check for $1,100.80 from the Gordon Estate. The remaining funds from the $4,000 left to the library will be in the form of securities and should be transferred by next month.
