1931 — VGCA Established — The Virginia Gold Cup Association was officially established with merger of the Gold Cup and Warrenton Hunt races.
1933 — Second Gold Cup Trophy Retired by Mrs. Sumner Pingree with wins in 1930, 1932 and 1933.
1934 — Races Timed for the first time.
1935 — Admission charge of $ 1 was introduced to the Virginia Gold Cup as the race returned after six years to the Broadview Course at the invitation of its new owner, Alexander B. Hagner. Rider Burley Cocks of Unionville, Penn, won after taking a legal shortcut (no beacon flag) across the course.
1938 — First Governor Comes — Gov. James H. Price became the first Virginia governor to attend the Gold Cup, and Ostend the first horse to win two consecutive Virginia Gold Cup races. A rumor that Robert Taylor, Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable were milling around down by the paddock drew more attention than the Gold Cup race.
1940 — Third Gold Cup Retired by Mrs. Frank M. Gould with wins in 1937, 1938 and 1940.
1943-1945 — World War II — No races ran during these wartime years.
1946 — Racing Resumes — Races resumed after the war, and D M. Smithwick won his first Gold Cup.
1948 — An Off Year — Gold Cup did not run due to a scheduling conflict with Maryland Hunt Cup.
