There are many reasons why hosting an international exchange student is a wonderful family experience. Volunteer area representatives in Rappahannock County for Youth For Understanding International Exchange, Jeanie McNear and Geneva Welch, are currently looking for prospective host families for the coming 1997-98 school year. Y.F.U. is one of the world’s oldest and most respected student exchange organizations. Rappahannock County High School traditionally enrolls five to six Y.F.U. teens, ages 15 to 18.
Each year YFU commits to finding homes for more than 3,000 international exchange students. That is a difficult task however hosting a student is easy, fun and rewarding. Many families wish to host to expand their own family’s horizons. Do both parents work? That’s fine. All Y.F.U. is looking for is a “typical” American family and what is more typical than that? You would treat your student like one of your family. Families come in all shapes and sizes (color too!). You don’t need teenagers at home in order to host. Couples without children at home as well as single parents are also eligible.
