For the past seven years, Portman has also offered Life Stories Workshops, teaching people of all backgrounds and ages how to write their own life stories. She sees a direct relationship between her work as a playwright and an actress and what she teaches in these workshops. “Here too, it’s about what happens when one is able to share a story and when one truly listens to another’s story. Whatever personal story is shared, both the teller and the listener are changed by the experience.” The many Rappahannock residents are now graduates of these workshops can attest to the lifechanging experience that awaits future workshop participants.
Life Stories workshops will be offered again in June, including a six day intensive June 14-16 and June 21-23, and a three day workshop June 28-30. For further information on workshops, contact Ki Theatre at (540) 987-3164.
