Every year we recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and yet on an average day in Virginia, 23 children are found to be abused/neglected.
Any person unable to control their anger and behavior with children should seek help from professionals and friends. A good parent recognizes that there is no such thing as a perfect parent or a perfect child. Good parents ask for help when their parenting skills seem to be failing them.
The business of child abuse is overwhelming to social workers, physicians, teachers, and sometimes foster parents, as these folks deal with the hurt heart that is left within an abused child.
Prevent Child Abuse America is one of the leading advocacy organizations for educating the public on the many issues related to child abuse prevention. The excerpts below are from a Prevent Child Abuse American (1990) brochure by Marilyn E. Gootman.
