Rappahannock’s development. We need services for our citizens yet we need to protect ourselves from unplanned growth. Beauty and growth do not need to be opposites. Growth is a complex issue that requires intelligent discussion as well as carefully instituted action. I feel I can offer both.

We have the luxury of a
large income from the
meals and lodging tax with the largest portion coming from one source. When the RNB moves to the commercial zone on US 211 we will experience a $30,000 loss in franchise taxes. We are currently discussing enormous future expenditures in the millions of dollars. I feel expenditures must be covered with a plan of payment as well as with a backup plan if we lose our largest source of income. Citizens should not be put at undue financial risk.

I feel the citizens deserve a
waste water treatment system.
The 19 acres of the Avon Hall property should provide suitable land for the system. Care needs to be taken to ensure our neighbors on Mt. Salem Avenue are not imposed upon and that the financial burden of the system does not bankrupt the town or its citizens. In a perfect world, we would also have underground utilities.
