Sydney Hall's still life paintings take off from Flickinger’s studies and remind us of why impressionism is one of our favorite artistic styles. Colors are pushed in unexpected ways, edges are lost and found and the range of values is enhanced.
Though Hall’s energy and excitement vibrate in her paintings, her work is well grounded in the still life tradition where color and form is endowed with a mysterious eloquence that conveys the nature of the individual. Working with flowers from her gardens and favorite objects from her home, Hall’s compositions lead the eye through an array of visual delights.
