The cavalry is coming. And it’s coming to Great Meadow.
There will be more than just racing at the May 4 Gold Cup races. This year, a local reenactment troupe will ride, demonstrating formationsand tactical maneuvers from the Civil War and other mounted engagements.
The demonstration will be organized and performed by members of the 4th Regiment of the Virginia Cavalry, a renewal of the famed Black Horse Troop of Fauquier County.
The original Black Horse militia, organized in 1859 by Fauquier lawyers and land owners, was designated Co. H
