Wake up and

smell the lettuce

Time for renewal is upon us

Here it is spring once again and the pastures

and early garden crops alert us to the fact

that it is high time to renew our vigor, spirits, and the pure enjoyment of life in Rappahannock County. | Cell towers, sludge, 9/11, urban sprawl, the ^hreat of drought, conflicts in the Middle East—all pre representative of the contentious and often |ragic side of life, but they are but just that—only pne side. i This is a time for rejoicing and for renewal. For pushing our hands deep into the soil and for delighting in the gifts granted each spring—the sprouts of cabbage and kale, the hew calves sportjng on greening pastures, the return of the hummingbirds, the perfume of early blossoms, the smiles of friends and neighbors, the sun setting over Old Rag.

We have such an advantage here in the Piedmont. We can take a moment or two and breathe in the clean air . . . let our eyes find peace ;in a mountain’s smile . . . and put into context the ^travails of this sometimes troubled world.
