Cup course
is donated
Great Meadow creator Arthur W. Arundel has donated the land for the Virginia Gold Cup racecourse to the Meadow Outdoor Foundation, a non-profit organization which is trustee of the Great Meadow Events Center.
Arundel purchased the raw land along U.S. 17 in 1982, developing it into a racecourse and field events center. The new course provided a home for the Gold Cup, which became homeless after the 1984 running at the Broadview course in Warrenton when that land was sold for development.
Arundel deeded approximately 200 acres to thd nonprofit MOF, which operates the field events facility for equestrian events and free community activities.
“This is of particular importance, as the land had been subdivided for 500 homes by the previous owner when I purchased it,” Arundel explained. “I wanted to ensure that this beautiful piece of property remains protected.”
