New trooper in town
The Area 12 regional office of the Virginia State Police, which oversees Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties, has a new commander, First Sergeant Matthew Hanley. Although originally from Massachusetts, Hanley has worked for the Virginia State Police for 13 years, primarily in Arlington. Hanley took command on July 10, when his predecessor former Rappahannock County Sheriff and current Piedmont Planning Commissioner Gary Settle was promoted to Lieutenant. Lt. Settle will be working in the VSP’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations in Wytheville. VA. “I’m looking forward to it,” said Hanley of his new office.
