About 9 p.m. Thursday, however, two Old Hollow residents reported seeing a man matching Leafs description with a small boy walking along Rt. 612 near the intersection of Rt. 600.

The sheriffs department immediately went to th scene and requested assistance from the state police. They began a search and brought in a tactical team and a tracking dog, which combed the woods and searched houses and bams in the area until nearly dawn Friday. The driving rain which fell all night grounded the state police’s helicopters, which the team had hoped could provide light from above with their powerful search lights.

More federal agents were brought in on Friday, and the search was widened to include parts of Gid Brown Hollow and the fields, buildings and hills south of Rt. 211. Reports of sighting began to come in froip areas other than Old Hollow, and were investigated. The silent approach
