With Ira Wayne Cloniger caught, the county is more relaxed. The criticism leveled against Sheriff Sherertz will inevitably pass and hopefully he will remain relatively unscathed. Residents have rallied to show their support. Others are still grumbling but, all in all, things have settled down and activities like picking blackberries are higher on the radar screen. Former Rappahannock News writer Bill Kossler weighed in on the Rappnet furor from his desk in St. Croix. With over 20 unsolved murders where he is working now, Kossler chastised folks for being “spoiled” and not “appreciating” what they have here in Rappahannock. While Bill may look out over the ocean from his window, if you aren’t a wealthy tourist in St. Croix, life can be pretty miserable in the city and many crimes go unsolved and unpunished. Likewise, the school system is in shambles. As we move forward together as a community, let’s remember that while we don’t want to be accused of never taking off our rose colored glasses, that perhaps a bit of perspective will help. It’s very easy to throw stones, it’s a lot harder to work together for solutions.
