Alleged murderer
transferred
Ira Wayne Cloniger, chained with one count of First Degree Murder in the July 2 stabbing death of Edward Fletcher Jr., has been transferred from the Rappahannock County jail to a larger, high security facility in Frederick County. According to Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz and Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke, it is standard procedure in Rappahannock County to transport high risk prisoners to larger, more secure facilities.
“I think he’s proved himself an escape risk and a danger to the community,” said Sheriff Sherertz, referring to Cloniger’s week long flight from law enforcement in the woods around Washington, Virginia. Cloniger has a history of violent felonies and particularly violence against police officers, and had to be subdued with a Taser stun gun last April when he was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in Culpeper.
