We were shocked and astounded at the
course of events revealed in the June 5, 2006 issue of the Fauquier Times-Democrat entitled “Tiny deer cause big controversy.”
We want to join with other Fauquier County citizens in expressing our disapproval of this action. We are incensed by the conduct of the DGIF officers who executed the warrant.
Elmer and Robin Cross have every right to be upset. There should be a thorough investigation into the actions of the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for the way they handled this case, as well as theheonductofBecky Cooper with the Sheriffs office.
We are not a martial law government who come and take away people or their pets in the middle of the night or early hours of the day and have them put to death. Such action is a disgrace and an infringement of the Crosses’ rights and freedom.
Just who do these people think they are? This is truly an abuse of authority and power and a pitiful excuse that the Crosses did not get a $12.50 permit. Is this what they call protocol? Also that these animals might carry Chronic Wasting Disease, which they have never had in the State of Virginia, is nothing more than a poor excuse to justify their actions.
