“It doesn’t seem to be an affordable price for a teacher, said School Board member Aline Johnson at a recent meeting. “I know other counties provide housing around $500 a month for teachers.”
Sallie Morgan, project director and spokesperson for the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board and Area Agency on Aging, said that there are seniors in Rappahannock County that have set up similar projects on their own. “There is certainly some successful, very thoughtful, projections built in such a program.” she said.
Pyne admitted that a lot more communication about the proposal was necessary, including more information about prospective renters.
“It’s one thing to offer an extra home that you own,” she said, “but to allow people into your home that you don’t know is an entirely different issue.”
