Novel No. 2, entitled “Venetian Exile” and set in 16th century Europe, is already finished. It’s the first in a series of four, collectively called “The Travels and Adventures of Rodrigo Albueno,” “Renegade,” “Secret Agent” and “Gentleman of the Spanish Nation.”
“It entertains, and you learn something, too,” Bums said with reference to “Exile.” “It’s history that’s easy and fun to absorb, with a fast-moving story that moves you right through it.”
Fast plot pace is something Bums says editors drilled into him the first time.
“You need something simple, fast-moving and straightforward,” he said. “It isn’t easy to get people to read these days.”
