“Writing fiction is an awful business,” said Robert Bums, author of the newly published novel ‘Punjab Nights.’“Utterly heartbreaking. Serial rejection.
“But,” he added, “once it’s finished and published, you can move on to the next novel. When it’s done, it’s done.”
It’s done.
The book - his first published work is now included in the local authors section at the Warrenton Borders, where Bums will discuss the novel and sign copies at 2:00 this Saturday.
And all it took to get there was 10 years of toil, drafts, rejections and revisions.
“I worked on it for years off and on,” he saidf “Then I took it to an editor in New York, who said it was too long, too self-indulgent and too complicated. She really sobered me up*” * Bums ended up extracting a much shorter and fasterpaced novel from his original version.
He cut the size of the text nearly in half and says that
