Every Thursday as I make my way back
home to Viewtown from Washington, DC where I work (full and honest disclosure requires me to tell you that I work for the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America), I look forward to driving into Sperryville, seeing my friends at the Sperryville Comer Store, and picking up a copy of the Rappahannock News. I assumed Thursday, October 12th would be no different. Man was I wrong. After reading Kevin Allen’s October 12th article “New Law a bitter pill for county vintners,” I realized that even here in rural Rappahannock County biased reporting is alive and thriving.
Mr. Allen’s story is filled with quotes from owners of several local wineries. Their argument: that selling their product through a local wholesaler will cause an undue hardship and limit their ability to get their wines onto the shelves of retailers far and wide.
