The Ray that I shall remember was a number of things. He was a philosophers non-scholarly yet clever and caring Good Ole'Bos philosopher He cared about his world and shared many personal views on our Blue Knoll Farm porch.
Ray was a philanthropist. His on-going kind deeds went largely unnoticed and un-remarked upon. I don't recall reading articles in the Rappahannock News detailing Ray Hitt's frequent contributions to the community; hut contribute he did Ray quietly manifested the "patience of Job" when assisting ill and elderly neighbors with tedious but essential errunds-errands that these folks could no longer perform without Ray's help. Ray and liis amazing Aloha to date have raised two families. After the Hitt's three sons had reached manhood. Aloha and Ray were called back into parenthood service Tragic circumstances brought them the challenges of raising a second fcmuly-dteir grandchildren, Kendra and Cory. The challenges were selflessly and gracefullv accepted and lovingly executed.
Ray Hitt was a humorist. I had heard, via the neighborhood grapevine, that Ray as a young man, exhibited a rather wild side. His nickname "Red", perhaps referred to more than his original hair color. The “mature * graying Ray that l knew always had a twinkle in his eye. He always had a wealth of rare stories to share. He had an affinity for charmingly mispromtunang words; yet his point was always clear. It was fun to be in Ray's presence. It was a pleasure to share his neck-cf-the-woods!
