Rappahannock County School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell reported to the board that the cost for Rappahannock County High School’s track and field complex came in at $356,767 — an impressive $283,473 less than the $640,240 that one contractor bid in October 2005. The amount originally budgeted for the complex was $350,000. Chappell said the savings were accomplished by separating the track project and the field project into two bids.
Bob Lander, president of the Scrabble School Foundation, reported on fund raising activities to preserve the old school and convert it to a senior citizens center. Lander said the organization is going to emphasize more strongly their intention to use the school as a senior center in order to draw more funding.
