There are three full-size engines at this museum, workhorses from as nearby as Orleans and Bedford, Virginia and as far away as Michigan.
There is also a unit from the antecedent of today’s building sprinkler systems. It is a large bottle of water with a spring-loaded valve at its spout. The bottle is mounted upside-down in the ceiling, and the exposed valve is held shut with a small clip. In the event of fire, the clip melts, the spring opens the valve and water squirts out.
