County Administrator John McCarthy said the county has contracted a firm called Conservation Solutions Inc. to restore the Confederate Monument near the County Courthouse. The work, which is scheduled for March, will cost about $35,000.

McCarthy also updated the board on the progress of a committee working to draft an ordinance for the land application of sewage sludge in the county. Welch said he has heard complaints that no farmers are on the committee. McCarthy said he would welcome a farmer on the committee and suggested that board members appoint one. McCarthy also said the public is welcome at the committee’s meetings.

Monday’s meeting was the last for interim Piedmont District Supervisor Tom Taylor. Newly elected supervisor Eddie Wayland will represent the district at the board’s next meeting in December.
