Chili lovers headed out in droves to Rappahannock County High School on Sunday to fill up on chili and listen to live bluegrass at the Rappahannock 4-H Livestock Club’s second annual Chili Cook-Off and Bluegrass Festival.
Attendees had eight delicious and unique varieties of chili to sample. Unlike last year, when every last spoonful of chili was eaten before 4 p.m., all of this year’s chefs made enough to last them through the end of the event.
Jonathon Partin took home the People’s Choice Chili Award for his Bromelain Chili. Bromelain is an enzyme and meat tenderizer obtained from pineapple, which is a key ingredient in Partin’s recipe.
The Best Decorated Booth Award went to Laura Skauge for the spot where she dished out her Sassy Mountain Chili.
