The original church group first met for about two years in the Frytown School House which was situated between Chestnut Forks (Currently “The Shade Farm”) and Rock Mills Road (Route 622). While meeting here one new member was received. In 1923, the church was organized and began to hold services in a grove of trees near the present site.
The church was erected in 1926 on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. Luther Wayland. The land was deeded in 1922 to the trustees, Ben Hawkins, Luther Wayland, Marcus Bruce, and Warren Corbin. There were many donations of money, material, and labor. Sam Wharton built the retaining wall, which is still standing. The original benches and some of the lumber were hauled by wagon from the Hazel Mountain Regular Baptist Church. That church was later disbanded when the federal government acquired land for the creation of the Shenandoah National Park. Elder Warren Corbin supplied the rest from his personal saw mill.
