I was just informed that my friend Ray is gone. I am so sad! I am sad for Ray's family. I am sad for his multitude of Rappahannock County friends. (My spouse. Gil and I were honored to count ourselves among that multitude.) Gil too is mourning his fine friend.
Gii and I were neighbors rf Ray and Aloha Hitt from .April ofl992 until November of2005 at which time we sold our Blue Knoll Farm property and relocated to Camden, Maine. We were "neighborly" neighbors but didn't live in each others' pockets nor did we often wine and dine together. These habits were not vital to our friendship. Gil and / knew that Ray and Aloha were situated comfortably near-by. We understood that they would drop everything to help us out, if need be. at the ring of a phone. We hoped that the Hilts shared this unspoken comfort zone pact and knew that they, m turn, could depend upon us.
Ray. for a number of years, helped us with the lawn work at Blue Knoll. / looked forward to hearing his pickup truck drive up our gravel lane on these weekly spring, sumiher and fall visits. Ray and 1 always had a chat prior to starting the lawn mower-a little premowing catehing-up on the local color. Ray, Gil, ami / generally ended the working visits pleasantly sharing stories and gossiping, while sipping cool libations on our ponh.
