Virginia Broadband oners high speed wireless Internet in Culpeper County and other areas. Their signal reaches a few miles into Rappahannock County so I invited their engineers out to my farm when I met their owner at a farmer’s conference. They say they can put up a 50 foot pole on the ridge at the top of my farm—a height which requires no special use permit—and point their device via laser to a 190 foot tower they have 8 miles away in Culpeper. Then they could broadcast a signal out in a radius of 4 miles thus giving high-speed Internet service to the people in Woodville and Castleton. If they found another spot further west then them could reach Sperryville as well. Of course whether or not they actually do so depends on whether they believe they can sell enough subscriptions to amortize the cost of putting up the pole and running electricity some 1,500 feet to the top of my ridge. I was pleased when the engineer came out to my house that his next appointment that day was with someone else in Castleton. If enough of us sign up with Virginia Broadband then perhaps soon can have rapid, reliable Internet service out here in the county. «
