The fifteenth season in the Smithsonian at Little Washington opens on Sunday, November 19 at 4 p.m. with a performance of Schubert’s beautiful song cycle Die Winterreise by John Elwes, tenor, and Kenneth Slowik, fortepiano, at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia.
The outstanding English tenor, John Elwes, began his musical career at Westminster Cathedral where he was Head Chorister and, while still a boy soloist, he met with considerable success in BBC broadcasts and recordings. Benjamin Britten dedicated the Corpus Christi Carol to him, and Elwes sang the part of Isaac in the world premiere recording of Britten’s Abraham and Isaac.
