Bingham s harangue
fails to sway board

After a public hearing dominated by Jackson District Supervisor Ellis Bingham’s insistence that the Comprehensive Plan is neither comprehensive nor a plan, the Board of Supervisors voted four to one to approve it Monday evening.
Speaking in favor of the plan, Allen Olson, president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, said he felt the plan "reflects the goals and objectives of the majority of citizens of this county.” He said that as a lawyer he believed the plan was “legally defensible, and provides an important basis and underpinning for the zoning and subdivision ordinances.”
Agricultural Extension Agent Thomas Williams said he had reviewed the portions of the plan that concern agriculture and found it a “well thought-out plan.” He said there is “renewed interest in agriculture in Rappahannock County” and urged that the plan be adopted.
Jonathan Cadwalader said he agreed with Mr. Olson.
