never thought of myself as a songwriter,” Ms. Schmidt said. “I ivrite as I’m inspired, and I find inspiration anywhere and everywhere. It’s more of a non-approach than an approach — attaining a state of receptivity to what’s going on around me. I’m geared to the profound undercurrents in mundane events,” she said, describing her song writing as “orchestrating the everyday.”
“My heart is in performing,” she continued.
And she knows it because the communication between Ms. Schmidt and a live audience goes both ways. “Every audience is different,” she explained.
So every Claudia Schmidt concert is different.
At her concert in Rappahannock County two years ago, the prevailing theme was laughter. She talked about constantly being struck with wonder at everyday life, at its beauty and complexity. She calls her gift of delight “a low wonder threshold.”
RAAC has scheduled an unusual appearance for her at the Gav Street Theater, Saturday, April 8, beginning at 8 p.m.
