The Board of Supervisors scheduled work sessions on the budget for Thursday evenings starting at 7:30 for April 13, 20, and 27, that last budget work session would also be for a public hearing on the school budget.
Monday’s meeting started with School Superintendant David Gangel presenting copies of the school budget to the supervisors and explaining that they included two forms of the budget. The bulk of the budget appears using the current categories and line items, he said, but the document also includes all the expenditures using a new system with 18-digit numbers. For this year, he explained, the supervisors can choose to adopt the budget using either system. Next year the county will have to use the new system.
New Stonewall-Hawthorn District representative Robert Anderson asked Dr. Gangel if he thought the new system would make it easier to keep up with expenses.
“In large school divisions it might give more control over the budget,” Dr. Gangel replied. “I don’t see it helping us all that much, but I think I can get used to it.”
