RICHMOND — Del. Andy Guest has announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race, leaving three candidates to battle it out for the Republican nomination.
Amidst the applause of his supporters. flashes of cameras and tears in his eyes, he made the announcement on March 29 at campaign headquarters in Richmond.
The statement came as little surprise. Throughout Guest’s campaign for governor, he reiterated his theme — "The difference is real” — stressing the differences among those seeking the Republican gubernatorial nomination. For Guest, though, the differences were all too real as he trailed the other candidate^ in public opinion polls and fund-raising efforts.
Former state Attorney General J. Marshall Coleman, 8th District U.S. Rep. Stan Parris, and former U.S. Senator Paul'S. Trible Jr. are the remaining GOP candidates vying for the gubernatorial nomination.
