Peter White of Piedmont District told the supervisors he believed the plan “incorporates a great deal of vision and foresight.”
Robert Dennis from Wakefield District urged that the plan be adopted. He noted that the existing plan, which was drafted in 1980, probably could not be defended against legal challenge since the county is required to update its plan every five years. He mentioned two articles that have appeared in the Washington Post in the past week, which highlight the problems of burgeoning growth in the suburban counties surrounding Washington, D.C.
One story about the growth in office space in the Tysons’ Corner area said that in 1987 the office space in the area was equal to that in downtown Miami, and now it is equal to all the office space in Seattle. “Since there is no unemployment to speak of in that area, it will mean that people will move into there.
