Although truest s witnarawai from the race is not expected to significantly aid any of his former opponents, all three campaigns have claimed Guest’s supporters.
Bruce Hildebrandt, Parris’ press secretary said,“With Stan’s experience and conservatism. Guest’s supporters will go to us.”
Shortly after Guest’s statement, Coleman announced several Republican leaders, many from the 7th Congressional District, have thrown their support from Guest to Coleman. Included on the list of supporters was Del. Clinton Miller, R-28th District.
“Among those running for governor within our party, Andy Guest and I alone shared an important qualification: years of state government experience,” said Coleman.
Despite the candidates’ enthusiasm to link themselves to the current House Minority Leader, Guest said he had no intention of endorsing any of the GOP candidates until after the primary. Guest said he stands ready to assist the eventual Republican nominee in the general election against the probable Democratic nominee, Lt. Gov. Douglas L. Wilder.
The delegate from Front Royal, who announced his candidacy last November, blamed his late start, in part, for his unsuccessful campaign. “Tpo much time and money were being claimed by mv opponents, and a N.tge number of Republicans made early commitments to them,” said Guest. "I think I was perceived as a long-shot, quite accurate when I came in, and I never got over that,” he added.
