“It seemed to be meant to be," she said of her appointment to the position. “It all just fell into place.”
Ms. Mock was the project coordinator and a vocational counselor working with high school dropouts in Madisonville, Kentucky. She’d been working in Madisonville for 14 months, and before that spent six years as the federal Job Training Partnership Act coordinator in Kentucky’s Probation and Parole office.
Ms. Mock said she had begun thinking about getting back to community mental health practice. That’s where her career in counseling began, as a counselor in a community mental health center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She followed that with several years working with the elderly through Project Independence, which assists senior citizens in living on their own.
Ms. Mock said she saw several advertisements placed by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Center in the Louisville Courier-Journal, and was immediately drawn to the one which ended, “. . . nestled at the foot of the mountains near Shenandoah National Park.”
