“What they’re telling us here is to reinforce failure ... If you reinforce failure, you’re going to make casualties of everyone in the county . . . The agricultural economy is dwindling . . . what we’re doing is driving it that way . . . Some of the very things that we’re doing that we may think is saving this county is driving it into the hands of investors . . .
"Because of our low tax rate and because of the land use techniques that we’re following, this makes it very appetizing for investors to come in the buy up giant tracts of land . . . We’re not only denying the county the tax base on that land, but it’s driving all the other little parcels of land sky high ... We have not done anything to better the population’s life, which is the sole purpose of this plan,” he concluded.
“I take exception to some of the things you’ve said about the Planning Commission, and I take exception to what you’ve said about the people on the Planning Commission," Mr. Gilkey told Col. Bingham.
Mr. Massie said, “About what you said, that David Fannon should resign and that would make some people happy, why don’t you resign and make everybody happy? The only thing Col. Bingham had suggested that I agree with is to include the baseball field in the information about Amissville.”
Mr. Massie moved to adopt the plan including the baseball field. Robert Anderson, who was sworn in l Monday to represent StonewallHawthorn District, seconded the motion, and the plan was approved by a 4-1 vote, with Col. Bingham dissenting.
