“There was considerable public concern expressed that some action should be taken to manage the gypsy moth populations. This project appears to be the best action to take at this time.” Supervisor Kelley said. He pointed out that the treatments are to be done in cooperation with State and County gypsy moth suppression projects within and adjacent to the Appalachian Integrated Pest Management (AIPM) project area.
“The method of treatment is as important or maybe more important than the amount of acres to be treated. There was concern expressed about the use of Dimilin and the long term effect on the environment,” Kelley said. Of the total 5,510 acres to be treated, 2,290 acres will be treated with Dimilin, 2,740 acres will be treated with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), and 480 acres will be treated with Gypchek.
