thought of admitting that Mom has a drinking or drug problem is impossible to face. “Historically,” she said, "it is a problem which has not been addressed.
Though Ms. Mock admitted that she is still trying, “to learn the system — each state has its own set of rules and regulations,” she explained, she’s eager to move FGS forward. “Right now, community education will be our main focus . . . I hope to expand our services. I would like to have preventative education classes in the schools, and in the community in general.”
Ms. Mock admitted that the move caused some consternation, mainly with her two daughters. Her older, Lisa, is a teacher in western Kentucky, and the younger, Julie, is still in college. “They were upset with me moving 700 miles away. They moved me here, and stayed three or four days, and when they left it was like my mother leaving.”
And for Ms. Mock, she’ll miss her community volunteer work — and cheering for the Princeton high school girls’ basketball team., She hadn’t missed a game in years until she moved to Rappahannock during the winter season.
Told that here girls basketball is a fall sport, followed by volleyball in the winter, she replied, “In Kentucky, nobody’s heard of volleyball!” But they are wild about basketball.
Though she is a native of Kentucky, Ms. Mock spent her childhood in Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree from Flagler College in St. Augustine.
Later she returned to raise her family in Kentucky, explaining, “I wanted the girls to go to school in a small community.”
Ms. Mock earned her Master’s degree in counseling from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, in 1974.
