The Rappahannock girls’ softball team is in the same spot as their male counterparts, fighting for their playoff lives.
This is exactly where coach Renee Leake wanted to be in the Panthers’ first full season of softball. In the beginning of the year. Coach Leake said her team’s goal was to finish above .500 and make the post-season tournament. The Lady Panthers, who dropped all four of their games last week, are 5-7 and must win four of their last five games to realize that goal.
Three of their final games are against Page, Clarke, and Manassas Park who are also vying for one of the four slots in the Bull Run District tournament, along with Strasburg and Central. They face the same schedule as the baseball teams which could mean a lot of changes in the standings by the last game. Like the RCHS hardballers, Rappahannock could win three and still make the tournament, “but it would be a numbers game," said Coach Leake.
