A lot of time at the meeting was devoted to debating the pros and cons of applying for Federal monies.
“If they give us a grant, what are we required to do?” Mr. Fletcher asked.
“That’s an excellent question,” Mr. Mathews replied. “Once any amount of Federal money is awarded, certain things come into play. They will come up four times during construction to check with every worker and see if he is being paid the David-Bacon wage. Some localities have found it increasing the overall cost if they get a grant.”
