Cars headed for the general subscriber parking spots may only enter through gates five, seven and nine on Route 245 or gate six on U.S. 17. Directions for parking are specified on the back of the passes.

“Please emphasize that members should read the back of their tickets for directions and parking,” said Monte Rust, who coordinated ticket sales. “It’s all spelled out right there.”

State Police Sgt. D.S. Adams said there will be 26 troopers stationed at entrances to Great Meadow, directing traffic. Deputies from neighboring counties have been hired to work security and will be aided by a small private force, said Ms. Norment.

The Fauquier Jaycess will be parking cars.

Volunteer organizations such as the Fauquier Lions, 4-H and the FHS Booster Club will sell refreshments, posters and programs.

Although pari-mutuel racing is now legal in Virginia, there won’t be any legal wagering at Great Meadow this year or in the foreseeable future, said Ms. Norment.

The grounds manager at Great Meadow for the last several years, Bobby Hilton, said the grass is “growing right now like crazy,” and predicted that on race day the turf will be about seven inches long.
