Mr. Mathews explained that a third module could be added to the reading and circulation area. He said that if he stuck to the 5,000 square < foot limitation, once the meeting t room was added “we had to decide f what things in the original program wouldn’t get built in.” The plans originally called for a 25,000 volume I library, he said. “This would not be ' adequate for that, ” he explained. ! “Then should we even put the i chimney on now?” Bill Fletcher, ! president of the Friends, asked. "Should we consider not building it (the meeting room) now? We could go ahead and build the other module now and add the meeting room later. If the climate is exceptionally good, we might get that too, and we might end up with a building of 6,500 to 7,000 square feet. If we’re dealing with a limited amount of money, we need the book library to be built first,” Mr. Fletcher added.
“I’m for the book library too," said Grace Sims, former librarian and member of the Library Board. "We’re calling that a multi-purpose room. It’s not an auditorium with sloped seating. It’s especially for the children’s story hour and for showing movies,” she said.
“Can you put books on the walls of the meeting room?” Nina Stamer asked.
“It’s not advisable from the secu! rity standpoint,” said Holly May. ; She pointed out that patrons could ' leave the library from that area without going past the circulation i desk.
