In other business, the board:
• approved C.E. “Skippy" Giles’ plan for shrubbery to screen the parking lot he has constructed for the former Washington Cash Store, which he is converting to offices for the county Health Department, with apartments upstairs. The natural screening was a condition of Mr. Giles’ special use permit approved by the Town Council last year.
• approved an application from Eileen Day for a handrail for the Clopton House entrance which faces Main St. Mrs. Day said the handrail on the stairs will allow her clients fo use the front door into her realty office, rather than the side entrance as they do now. The handrail and spindles will match the existing porch railing, the application stated. A lattice frame for the building’s sitfe porch was also approved.
• held a work session to discuss standards and guidelines for the rehabilitation of buildings within the town’s Historic District. The standards, when finalized, will have to be passed to the Town Council foi; a public hearing before the Council can adopt them, Mrs. Miller said.
