Hall and the town monument. That street was surveyed but never put in, and the town owns it, Mr. McCarthy explained. The town has agreed to let the county put a crosswalk to the building on it and to put a septic system under it, he said, but some members of the board think the county should own the street, and “the town has not agreed to that yet.”
Mr. McCarthy suggested that Commonwealth Attorney Peter Luke, acting as the County Attorney, and Frank Reynolds, acting as attorney for the town, could “try to get these matters ironed out in the next three weeks” so that a contract of sale could be considered at the June 5 board meeting.
“The town did not demonstrate any interest in the Historical Society building,” Mr. McCarthy said.
“Should we sell the library before we have enough money to build another?” asked Mr. Massie. “I wonder if we could predicate the sale on their willingness to rent the building back to the library until there is a new library. I don’t want to see the taxpayers get stuck trying to build the library.”
