Four residents were suggested to the six council members for election to the vacant seat. Two are present members of other boards in the town, and the other two have expressed an interest in becoming involved in the town’s administration.
Mark Bailey was nominated by Councilman Peter Skowronski at the council's March meeting. Mr. Skowronski called Mr. Bailey “a good candidate to reach the younger people in this town who make it their residence rather than anything else."
Charles Eldred now serves as a member of the town’s Board of Zoning Appeals, which is inactive due to lack of work before it. He is a former member of the town council, and is frequently in the audience at council meetings.
Reinhardt Lynch, one of the owners of The Inn at Little Washington, is presently a member of the town’s Planning Commission. He has twice sought election to the council, each each time unsuccessfully.
Janice Moffett has lived in the town for 13 years. In a letter to the council she said she moved to the town because of the opportunity it offered in’raising a family, “where children could walk the streets safely, play in their own yards without fear, and actually know their neighbors.”
The six members of the council will fill the vacant seat by election, rather than nomination of one person. The person elected will need a majority of votes from the council members present at the meeting, which will be held at the courthouse, beginning at 8 p.m.
