Tucuquere Randolph Rouse’s Tucuquere won both the Deep Run Hunt Cup April 15 and Orange County’s open timber contest two weeks before. The Chilean-bred 9-year-old suffered his first timber defeat in the Middleburg Hunt Cup with 18-year-old Nicholas Schweizer when he came in third.
Hawa Arthur Arundel’s Hawa, recently purchased from his daughter Wendy, made his debut over timber by galloping second to Ozymandias with Speedy Smithwick in the irons at at the Chronicle Cup this past fall. Two weeks later he was an impressive winner of the Great Meadow Cup.
This season the Smithwicktrained horse lost in a photo finish at Orange County to Rouse’s Chileanbred Tucuquere. He fell at Foxfield’s timber ’chase this past weekend.
Touch Of Class Brian Fitzgerald’s 9-year-old gelding, trained by Billy Dodson, in a brief career over timber, was second to Von Csadek at Marlborough April 2 with Billy Meister in the irons.
