and Mrs. George MeCurry of Strasburg, has won the history essay contest sponsored by the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The contest was open to students in grades five through eight in schools in Madison, Culpeper, and Rappahannock counties. Young MeCurry is a sixth grader at Wakefield.

The contest theme was "My Favorite American Patriot of the Revolutionary War." MeCurry wrote on Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox." Entries were judged on accuracy, neatness, and originality.
