Attacking another argument sometimes used by the films' producers and distributors, Mr. Heddleston debunked the claim that they are “artistic. They have no relation to art — or to the way most people view sex."
As for people who say that it is their own business what they watch in the privacy of their own home, Mr. Heddleston added, “it's just not private.” One of the adults forgets to take the tape out of the machine, or neglects to hide it away, and the next day — while the parents are still at work — a group of kids innocentlv slips the tape into the family’s VCR.
“This stuff will make a kid into an adult in about 15 minutes,” Mr. Von Fange said. "It is more than they can handle . . . they don’t understand” the graphic and often bizarre sexual content of the films.
“I agree with them,” Mrs. Sickles said. Although she was scrupulous only to rent the tapes to adults, "I can only control them at the counter. I can’t control what happens to them once they're out the door."
